Autograph letter : Oxford, to Mary Spence, 1875 May 29.

Expressing appreciation for her friendship; saying that "it is very probable that Granite and you may be the first people able or willing to take footing on St. George's ground for me. I think I shall have some soon in Worcestershire, I believe. And you might have your little cottage and garden and be an example; and Granite paints our first St. George's pictures--faithful to their purpose--at least;" saying that "the one thing I need on St. George's ground is grace of heart--fullness of life. All other things 'will be added unto us'. But justice and change first. And I should think Granite and you very fair pieces of each--as God has made the world and its creatures."
